Antispyware Checklist
Below are guidelines for configuration of the
antispyware utilities discussed on the how to protect your
self from spyware page. The other component is their
usage. Each of these programs can be downloaded
for free from the How to
Protect Yourself form Spyware page.
Spybot should be
run at the very least once a day to can and fix any
spyware found on your computer. Spybot should be
run immediately when you say, "What is wrong with my
computer?"
NOTE: For extra protection, also run Ad-aware.
Spyware Blaster
once configured will stop spyware that is in its database
to be downloaded to your computer. For advanced
users spyware blaster has the option of adding your own
controls to the database. After running Spybot, open the
Spybot Fix.log and add the CLSIDs to your spyware blaster
database and you should never have to deal with those particular
spyware again.
When all else fails it's time to delve into the
registry with HiJackThis.
If you are familiar with the registry then you should be
able to look at the results of the scan and fix your
problem. If not or for further clarification of a
key, use the The official
HijackThis QuickStart for posting on the SpywareInfo
forums.
Spybot
- Check for updates
immediately after installation;
- Set some level of
automatic scanning. I shutdown my machine every
night, so I automatically have Spybot run upon reboot;
- Set option to fix
problems automatically;
- Set option to fix
problems without prompting;
- Set both options for
usage tracking;
- Periodically run
Immunize and fix problems.

show new/unprotected items.
