Antivirus Testing
combines universities, industry and media plus technical,
security and legal experts from civil and military
government and law enforcement as well as privacy protection
organizations whose objectives are to unite efforts against
writing and proliferation of malicious code like computer
viruses or Trojan Horses, and, against computer crime, fraud
and the misuse of computers or networks, inclusive malicious
exploitation of personnel data, based on a code of conduct.
They offer a virus string to test your antivirus
software. I have used this string and have found that Norton
Antivirus 2003 will not even allow me to download any of
the files. You can test your software here as
well. If by chance you are able to download, then once
the file is on your machine run your virus scanner. If
the virus scanner can't remove the file it is time go here:
Instructions:
- Simply click on the 4 files below and a download will
begin, or you can "right-click" and do a
"Save Target as...".
Your AV should kick in and tell you the file is a virus
as you try to save the file.
- If it does then
simply cancel the downloads and be have confidence in
your AV software.
- If it doesn't then
the file will be downloaded to your computer. Pay
attention to where you put, the desktop is best.
- Run your virus scanner
You virus scanner should remove the download files.
- If it doesn't then
it is time to go here:
